The wonderful thing about being older is the longevity of the things you buy. Sure, phones and computers and the like tend to need to be replaced every year or two, but on the whole most things are going to last you for many, many years. This is nothing groundbreaking; I would even go so far as to call it obvious. But you really don’t think about it until you get to make your first big purchase. Which for me will hopefully be in the next 3 or 4 months.
A recent proposal of a snowboarding trip from Suzanne rekindled my love of snowboarding, and so even though I can’t go because I need the money for France, when the Summer hits and all the gear goes on sale I’m going to kit myself out in preparation for next Winter. Between the jacket, pants, goggles, helmet, boots, board, and bindings, I expect to spend about $1300. That might seem like a lot, but when you figure that stuff will probably last me 10 years or so, if not longer, it’s really not that much. Plus, the jacket and pants are universal winter gear, and if I even go 12 times in the next 10 years, that will mean I’d save money over renting.
Long story short, I plan on making this my Winter activity of choice, which will hopefully make me start looking forward to the Winter instead of hating it so much. But I’m not going snowboarding alone, so you guys better figure out some kind of turn-taking system. Oh and Mac, if you want Gene to remember he’s dating you, get him a helmet before he comes.
